Professor Souhaibou NDONGO

Professor Souhaibou NDONGO is a full professor at the Faculty of Medicine of Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, specializing in internal medicine and rheumatology. Since 2016, he has headed the Internal Medicine/Rheumatology department at the Dalal Jamm National Hospital Center in Dakar.




PROFESSIONAL CAREER

Formerly an intern at the hospitals of Dakar, he continued his hospital-university career at the Aristide Le Dantec University Hospital, where he successively held the positions of Head of Clinic, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and then Full Professor in Internal Medicine, before joining the National Hospital Center of Dalal Jamm.

His training was enriched by several specializations in France. At Paris XI University, he deepened his study of polyarthritis and systemic diseases, then at Paris VI University, he completed advanced specialized training in rheumatology as well as a course in rheumatological ultrasound. He furthered this training with instruction in osteopathic debilitating conditions at Henri Poincaré University in Nancy, a diploma in pain management from the University of Nantes, and training in general ultrasound in Nîmes.


His career has a significant military and international dimension. A former student of the Dakar Military Health School, he was its Director of Studies from 2010 to 2016. Between August 2006 and March 2007, he headed the Internal Medicine department of the United Nations military hospital based in Harper, Liberia, a commitment that earned him the United Nations Peacekeeping Medal.


Alongside his hospital responsibilities, Professor Ndongo is deeply involved in medical training at Cheikh Anta Diop University. He coordinates the Clinical and Therapeutic Synthesis module as well as the University Diploma in Pain Management. He participates in the training of future specialists in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology, and in teaching systemic diseases.

His involvement in scientific life is reflected in his responsibilities within several learned societies. A former President and Honorary President of the Senegalese Society of Rheumatology, he is a member of the African Society of Rheumatology and a corresponding member of the French Society of Rheumatology. He also belongs to the Senegalese, African, and French Societies of Internal Medicine.

 

 

PUBLICATIONS AND SCIENTIFIC WORKS

Author of more than 300 publications and communications, Professor NDONGO has provided direction or co-direction for more than 40 theses and dissertations.

His work in sharing knowledge continues through several books. He is notably the author of General and Systemic Syndromes – Tropical Context, published in 2015 and then in a new edition in 2021. He also contributed to a book dedicated to the management of osteoarthritis.

More recently, he co-wrote with Ndèye Dialé NDIAYE Paroles de Rhumatisants (2025), before publishing Je m'appelle Débo, je suis malade et je me sens seule ! (2026).

He is also the author of medical booklets devoted to rheumatoid arthritis and pain, demonstrating his interest in disseminating medical information accessible beyond the academic setting alone.

As coordinator of the TAHIRAH CARE Scientific Committee, he brings his hospital, university, and scientific experience to bear on the association's mission. He contributes to guiding the work of the Scientific Committee and ensuring the quality of medical information provided to patients and their families, through an approach based on scientific rigor, knowledge transfer, and awareness-raising.
